Project 3 in totality

Project 3 was about making some sort of proposal and was to include an animation fly-through. I chose to get lost between proposing a product and proposing an idea, so I ended up with a product used to facilitate an idea.

I've always been fairly interested in gold brush plating with a simple electrolysis machine. What if you could build a portable low voltage brush plating widget into a glove? What doors would that open for expression? I am intrigued with the idea of plating objects people normally don't think to plate, then doing it in public with bystander's unaware, maybe even as a form of strange vandalism that will restart the discussion of wether it's considered vandalism if you actually increase the dollar value of an object.

The animation video is far to large to consider posting here, but here are the screenshots.

Project 2, Continued

To the left: Traced Creeper that didn't work out.

To the right: Drawn from scratch Creeper. Totally working out.

See? This is what happens when you import and try to trace.
Minecraft. I'm not going to try and wiki you through what it is ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft ), but I will say that the current idea is based on the 'Creeper', an iconic monster from the game. It's tactic is to simply sneak up behind you and explode. Before it does so it makes a very recognizable sound. This bit of aurial goodness is the pyschological warfare embeded into the game. You are slowly (quickly) programed to FEAR this sound. This is the sound of impending doom. It sounds like someone lit gunpower on fire. It's a momentary hiss before your handy-work is demolished. I feel a need to create a model that transmits this sound and is small enough to hide. Maybe.

Project 2: Not so sure yet.

Okay, so project 2 deals with FM transmission and 3D modeling combined in some form of artistic expression. I'm not sure yet exactly what I want to do. I was thinking of just 3D printing a base that holds my iPhone upright and encases an FM transmitter at the same time, but that's just... boring.

I scaled a basic base to encapsulate a simple project enclosure just to get something started.
I am going to hunt for toys with sound units and see if I can replace the speaker with a transmitter and build a model idea around that. Stay tuned!

Project 1, Completion

I've decided to change the meaning somewhat of Project 1. Rather than be a small scale trophy to be awarded for achieving friends, it will take more of it's historical roots. By this I mean the original meaning of Roman Arches. Romans would conquer; their slaves would walk through the triumphal arch and ceremoniously become Roman property. Such is the world today with FaceBook with a nearly 70% penatration rate in the US.

I was precise. It took many guides.

Week 2, Google Sketchup

Monday I left my portable hard drive at home. It's a good thing that the second time around goes so much faster! This is good as I like the new base better. I've just finished the columns. Here is a before and after:

Week 1, Google Sketchup

Week 1 we've been introduced to Google Sketch-up, a program used to draw 3-D models.  We are already developing ideas for the first project, to develop some sort of commemoration for some sort of achievement. My first run with Google Sketch-up is making me want to stick to angular forms, because curves are just hard.

Two semesters ago I took an Art History class. Most of the class seemed to be covering ancient artworks, especially architecture. I really enjoyed all of it, but especially roman architecture; you see so much of it's influence today!

So I already have my idea. I want to make a 'trophy' (the 3D printer we are using this semester is limited to 4x4x4 inches) based on the Arch of Titus.

The Arch of Titus is a "Triumphal Arch" located in Via Sacra, Rome, c.82 CE. It was built to honor Titus's victories, which was sort of a custom back then.

Arch of Titus

I want to commemorate, nonsensically, FaceBook users who attain a certain milestone in the number of friends they have added. So the 'trophy' will be modeled after Triumphal Arches in Rome (or just roman architecture, depending on skill required and time constraints) and be inscribed with some sort of cheesy victory message for obtaining X number of friends. I want it to be mildly to directly insulting, since I don't think it's actually reward worthy to have a twitchy adding finger, so it might say something like "Congradufuckinglations" or "You're a whore" (as in friend whore). The South Park episode where the character finally reach the most points in a Guitar Hero like game are rewarded in-game by the message "You're a Fag!" (or something like that, it was awhile ago).

So far, this is my start in Google Sketch-up. Be gentle, I just picked up the program yesterday!
